I phoned up the vet this morning to find out how Grendel was. The Shabazz-man said that he would never walk again and that his condition would continue to deteriorate. I asked him if Grendel was in pain, and he said he didn't think so. I asked him, "If Grendel were your dog, what would you do?" He said, without hestitation, "I would let him go. Now."
So about an hour ago Liam and I drove over together to the Vet Clinic. Grendel was happy to see us but could not get up. He was in the bottom cage, lying on his favorite green shaggy blanket. We sat on the floor and petted him and told him how much we loved him and how happy we were that he shared his life with us. Then we told him we were taking him home. We each gave him a treat and then the Shabazz-man (His name is actually Gary Shahbazian and he is a wonderful vet.) came and gave him the shot. It was very peaceful.
Thnaks to all who said a prayer for this little dog. Your prayers have been answered. Grendel is home.

Thank you again for sharing all this with us. I feel pain but know how much more pain you must feel. God Bless you.
(((((((((((all of you))))))))))))
You gave him a wonderful life and a kind and peaceful crossing, Aghaveagh. You have done what we should all do for the furry loved ones in our lives.
And my heart aches for you and Liam---and, quite frankly, for myself. Grendel worked his way so deeply into my heart. I am stunned by how many tears I have cried this afternoon, for a little dog I never even got to pet. But you made us all feel that we knew and loved him---God bless you for that, and may the Holy Spirit comfort you now.
Love,
Doxy
Aghaaveah and Liam- so much love to you.
You know Aghaveah- all the personality and love that was Grendel was translated perfectly onto the blog by your own loving heart and hand.
Thank you and God bless.
And now I understand Shabazzman.

I've had my cry at Grendel's blog and offered my prayers at MP's - so now all that's left is to send my love and prayers to you and Liam. Blessings in this sad time. Thank for letting us come to know and love Grendel.
We are very sad for you and with you. Love, +Maya Pavlova and Jane
Dear Aghaveagh, thank you so much for sharing Grendel with us. I keep breaking out in tears over the loss of this little guy who feels like an old friend, though I never got to see him in person. I am so glad that despite his misanthropy he found his way into your home and learned to trust and be part of a loving family where gravy could be counted upon. And he got to go to East Fresno! He Got to Go! and had the time of his life and came home happy. He must have known he was about the luckiest dog in the world to be found by you, who are not only a great dog mom but a marvellous writer who could give expression to his unique nature via blog.
May you and Liam be comforted and borne up. So tough to lose two dear animals so close together. I am keeping you in my prayers.
(((((you))))))
We love you.
